About Dutch Photo Museum

History of the Photo Museum

The Dutch Photo Museum (Statedam entrance) has managed a large part of the photographic heritage in the Netherlands since the late 1980s. The museum also organizes international exhibitions on photography, guided by the strong documentary tradition and its innovation. Sometimes a social or artistic theme is central, other times an internationally iconic photographer.

The Photo Museum is still located in the striking industrial building Las Palmas, once the workshops building of the Holland-America Line, which was completely renovated in 2006. The location is located on the Wilhelmina pier on the Kop van Zuid, in the middle of cultural hotspots and other symbols of the Holland America Line such as Hotel New York and Cruise Terminal Rotterdam.

The Dutch Photo Museum, which has been located in the Las Palmas business complex since 2007, is moving! The monumental Santos warehouse has been renovated in recent years. The open floor plan with closed facades with minimal daylight makes Santos ideal for the collection of more than six million photos and vulnerable photographic objects. The Dutch Photo Museum will be open from the autumn of 2025.

Accessibility

The Dutch Photo Museum in Las Palmas is easily accessible by tram, metro (Wilhelminaplein stop) and water taxi. In the immediate vicinity there is paid parking for more than 500 cars.
