About Theater Rotterdam Schouwburg
The Rotterdamse Schouwburg is a place for dance, theatre and music theatre companies with appeal to all audiences, from the youngest toddlers experiencing the theatre for the first time to the most seasoned opera connoisseurs. Virtually every evening and weekend renowned national and international companies can be seen gracing the boards here.
The production company affiliated with the Schouwburg, Productiehuis Rotterdam, produces shows by up-and-coming theatre performers. But famous Rotterdam companies such as the RO Theater and Scapino Ballet Rotterdam also frequently perform in the Schouwburg.
The Rotterdamse Schouwburg is designed by architect Wim Quist and built in 1988. The foyer was renovated in 2010 by the Flemish scenographer and light designer Jan Versweyveld and now serves as an inviting meeting place with a café and free Wi-Fi. The entire back wall is made up of a 3×14 metre LED screen media wall.
