Rotterdam houses top museums such as Boijmans Van Beuningen, the Kunsthal Rotterdam and the Nederlands Fotomuseum. Internationally acclaimed festivals such as the International Film Festival Rotterdam and the Art Rotterdam Week attract thousands of visitors each year. Noted for its street art, sculptures and design, Rotterdam is becoming a magnet for urban travellers with a taste for contemporary art.

Rotterdam is home to many designers such as Richard Hutten, Susan Bijl and Sabine Marcelis. Joep van Lieshout was considered a pioneer when he started Atelier van Lieshout in the M4H dock area over thirty years ago. The area is changing swiftly, attracting more creative companies and designers. In 2015 the acclaimed Studio Roosegaarde also moved to M4H.

Future

Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen This first art storage facility in the world offers access to a museum’s complete collection without the mediation of a curator. Designed by MVRDV and due to be completed in fall 2021.
Landverhuizersmuseum At the Fenixloods II on Katendrecht, one of the former docks in Rotterdam will open a museum which tells the story of emigrants. From 1872 onwards, the area around Katendrecht and the Wilhelminapier had developed into the location from which millions left the Old World in search of a better life, in the first place, via Ellis Island, in New York.
