About Nieuwe Instituut

Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam is the national museum and institute for architecture, design and digital culture. The institute shows how powerful new (design) ideas can be. The aim is to imagine, try out and put into practice a better future by reflecting together on ideas from the past, now and in the future. Visitors are encouraged to ask questions, contribute ideas and contribute themselves. The exhibitions, research, events and other initiatives that the institute develops at home and abroad together form a testing ground. Leading designers, thinkers and diverse public groups work together on a critical approach to current issues.

Nieuwe Instituut houses the National Collection for Dutch Architecture and Urban Planning, and manages Sonneveld House, a leading example of Dutch functionalist architecture from 1933 in Rotterdam’s Museum Park.

Accessibility

Het Nieuwe Instituut is easily accessible by public transport with the metro and tram 4, 7, 8, 20, 23, 25 (Eendrachtsplein stop). It is about a 15-minute walk from Rotterdam Central Station. The Museumpark parking garage is opposite the building.
