Stronger in the global market with Trade & Innovate NL

01/22/18

Eight public organisations join forces to improve support to entrepreneurs on the international market. On Monday 22 January, with Minister Sigrid Kaag for International Trade and Development Aid in attendance, they signed the ‘Trade & Innovate NL’ covenant. Participants include Amsterdam inbusiness, Brabantse Ontwikkelings Maatschappij (BOM), Brainport Development, Economic Board Utrecht, InnovationQuarter, Ontwikkelingsmaatschappij Oost-Nederland NV (Oost NL), Rotterdam Partners and Rijksdienst van Ondernemend Nederland (RVO.nl), in partnership with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Economic Affairs and Klimaat002E.

Importance Trade & Innovate NL

Trade & Innovate NL promotes the internationalisation of Dutch business and industry. This is important because the Dutch earning power is 32% based on export. At the same time, the world around the Netherlands is more turbulent than ever, with huge challenges in the field of climate, food safety, health and sustainable energy use. With its good innovation climate, world leading top sectors and its strength through partnership between government, business and knowledge institutions, the Netherlands can take leading positions in resolving these challenges.

The public parties which signed the covenant realise that they can achieve more together than individually. This is partly because the international market increasingly requires integral, ready-made solutions, and because the Netherlands is competing at global level with big economies with extensive trade-promoting packages.

Minister Kaag: ‘Competition with emerging economies is increasing. To maintain and boost our good competitive position, we will have to join forces: publicly and privately. It’s good that we are taking another important step today by signing the covenant between public parties – government and region – which is at the basis of the foundation of Trade & Innovate NL.’

Netherlands Ltd

Adri Bom-Lemstra, responsible for Economic Affairs in the Provincial Executive of South Holland: ‘What I’ve learned from the missions so far is that you have to invest in relationships over the border, taking a targeted, joint and above all long term approach. The close public cooperation within Trade & Innovate NL makes this possible. The Netherlands SME is more effectively supported so that ‘Netherlands Ltd’ can optimally do business.
