Rotterdam hosts International Conference on Science Communication in 2023

Rotterdam is a city of frontrunners, pioneers and people with the courage and will to drive change. From its impressive architecture and creative sector to its future-obsessed port and resilience strategy, Rotterdam often leads the world in new ideas and innovations. The city is an international hub for business and knowledge, making it a natural business destination with unmatched possibilities for congresses and business events. We are proud to announce that Rotterdam will be the host city for the 2023 edition of the biannual Public Communication of Science and Technology Conference.

The theme for the PCST 2023 conference, which will take place at De Doelen ICC and bring app. 600 international researchers, scientists, journalists, policy makers and museum staff to the city, will be Creating Common Ground. PCST2023 coming to Rotterdam is the result of a collaborative effort by the Comité van Nederlandse Universiteiten (Committee of Dutch Universities), led by Maarten van der Sanden of TU Delft. Rotterdam Partners coordinated the bid process and was responsible for the bidbook.

The PCST conference, which will focus on collaboration, co-creating and participation in science communication, fits perfectly with the city of Rotterdam. Choosing Rotterdam to be the host city for the 2023 edition was therefore logical, says Van der Sanden. “Creating Common Ground is about professionals seeking improvements for a sustainable and responsible future. Not only by agreement, but also through disagreement and discussion. Creating (common) ground is literally what the Dutch are famous for. It is what we mean when we talk about ‘poldering’. Mentioning the issues as they are, being critical on what we hear and see, and at the same time just doing, negotiating and being an entrepreneur. Rotterdam as a city is exemplary when it comes to finding ways forward, bringing together differing angles and views and coming up with creative and productive new solutions. It will be the perfect location for PCST2023.”
