In its continuous ambition to be the smartest port in the world, Port of Rotterdam authority has started a digitalisation program together with IBM.

In its continuous ambition to be the smartest port in the world, Port of Rotterdam authority has started a digitalisation program together with IBM.

The program is all about developing and using Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in the cloud. As part of the program, sensors have been installed over a span of 42 kilometres of quay walls, mooring posts and roads, stretching from the port to the North Sea. The sensors gather data on things like tides, currents, temperature, wind direction and speed, water levels and berth availability. The data can be used to increase traffic efficiency and safety in the port area.
