BlueCity: official CIRCO Hub for South Holland, helping SMEs

Rotterdam is a living lab where companies, entrepreneurs, research & knowledge institutes actively work together to design, develop, test and implement solutions for important transitions of today and tomorrow. The shift from the traditional linear to a circular economy is one of those transitions. BlueCity is an international icon of the circular economy, a national platform for circular entrepreneurs, and a very visible local accelerator that empowers circular entrepreneurs and inspires citizens. As of May 2021 BlueCity is also the official CIRCO Hub for the Rotterdam region, helping SMEs explore and make the most of circular business opportunities.
CIRCO – with support from the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management – activates entrepreneurs and creative professionals to (re) design products, services and business models in order to subsequently do circular business. With a proven design thinking method CIRCO helps companies with creating circular business propositions in cooperation with their value chain. As a CLICKNL program, CIRCO activates production companies and creative professionals to get started with circular design. Circular entrepreneurship is possible in many cases by (re)designing products, services and business models.
As CIRCO Hub, BlueCity offers various CIRCO Tracks enabling entrepreneurs and companies to explore the possibilities of circular design and business models. Usually a company participates with a duo consisting of a designer/engineer/product manager and someone who know the market, clients and stakeholders. Together they map and explore circular options and take the first steps towards the development of new business models.
Previous CIRCO Tracks organised by BlueCity in 2020 were centred around themes such as Catering and Suppliers; Maritime Manufacturing Industry & Port; Event Locations and Suppliers; Installation technology; Future Proof Construction sites. BlueCity is expecting to start new CIRCO Tracks around Circular business parks; Transformation of buildings; Smart Industry; Circular textules; Ship & Yacht building.
