About Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen
The museum is closed due to renovations.
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen will undergo a necessary long-term renovation from 27 May 2019. The largescale refurbishment and modernisation is expected to take seven years. During this Transit period, eight institutions and museums across Rotterdam will be holding exhibitions with works of art from the museum collection under the title ‘Boijmans Next Door’. The collection will also be presented abroad by means of touring exhibitions. Meanwhile, the construction of the Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen continues apace. The world’s first publicly accessible art storage facility will open in 2021 and will safely house and display the museum’s collection of 151,000 artworks.
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is one of the oldest museums in the Netherlands. The collection includes paintings, sculptures and objects, as well as an important collection of drawings and etchings. It features many major Dutch and European works spanning the period from the early middle ages to the 21st century, from Van Bosch to Rembrandt, and from Van Gogh to Dalí and Dutch Design. It also presents temporary exhibitions on a wide variety of subjects throughout the year.
The museum has six function rooms available, suitable for both large and small groups. The rooms in the old executive wing are still rich in the atmosphere of the 1930s, when the museum was built, but have been recently renovated and upgraded with modern facilities such as free Wi-Fi.
The largest room, the auditorium, has a fixed setup with stage and seating for a maximum of 210 persons. When the weather is good, guests can go straight from the auditorium into the museum garden for a lunch or cocktail reception. The Oude Bibliotheek is well-suited for dinners and meetings and seats a maximum of 24 in a square seating configuration, or up to 40 for dinners.
After closing time, the Espressobar is also available for dinners for up to 40 people. Here you can dine in a modern café setting in the inner courtyard of the museum surrounded by an ever-changing selection of wall paintings of modern contemporary artists. The museum restaurant, Het Paviljoen, has a capacity of 150 and can host dinners with lovely views of the Museum Park and the sculpture garden.
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is located adjacent to Museum Park in the Museumkwartier district and is easy to get to by metro or tram 7 or 20 (Eendrachtsplein stop). From Rotterdam Central Station, it is about a 15-minute walk. The Museum Park parking garage is adjacent to the museum building.
