Rotterdam is hosting the international Cleantech Summit
This year, Rotterdam is hosting the international Cleantech Summit, a prestigious event at which innovative high-tech businesses and investors in the field of cleantech come together. Cleantech is one of the Rotterdam region's key economic growth sectors. The arrival of the summit bolsters the image of Rotterdam and the wider region as an appealing place to situate businesses and investments in the cleantech field. The Cleantech Summit has been brought to the city by Rotterdam Partners, Innovation Quarter, Clean Tech Delta and the City of Rotterdam.
During the two-day event, which will take place on 20 and 21 November 2014, 56 cleantech businesses from the Netherlands and elsewhere in Europe and 70 investors in cleantech will all come together. The Cleantech Summit's arrival in Rotterdam provides businesses in the city and the wider region with unique access to the capital that is vital for the growth or ongoing development of innovative initiatives in the field of cleantech.
‘Cleantech’ is an umbrella term for the types of technology and systems that contribute to a cleaner environment and more responsible use of raw materials. Rotterdam, and the wider region, has a high concentration of economic activity and knowledge centres in the field of cleantech. Fred van Beuningen, Managing Director of Rotterdam Partners: ‘Interest in clean technology is increasing worldwide. There is a growing consensus about the importance of dealing with raw materials and the environment in a responsible way. In addition, investors are increasingly recognising commercial opportunities in cleantech.’
Alexander Banz, President of the Cleantech Summit Rotterdam and Partner at Niton Capital: “The Cleantech industry has seen some consolidation in the last year in terms of global investment however this industry is very exciting and will continue to provide attractive investment opportunities. The slow-down in investment has allowed Cleantech entrepreneurs to re-focus and work hard to put in place healthy and well-structured business models. Those companies that rise to the top will be the ones that provide more efficienct use and recycling of resources, efficiency improvements and cost reductions for renewable energy, energy savings for buildings and houses and improvements for cost competitive mobility.
The Cleantech Summit Rotterdam will be hosted in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and will provide investors and industry experts compelling insight into the best European innovative clean tech companies.”
In the region of Rotterdam/Delft/Drechtsteden, the sector is currently made up of nearly 2,300 businesses providing 12,400 jobs, with an economic contribution of more than 2 billion euros. The cleantech sector is expected to generate an additional 100 to 150 million euros worth of investments over the next few years.
The Cleantech Summit will take place at the Beurs-WTC Congress & Event Center and is being organised by Tech Tour and the International Venture Club in conjunction with Rotterdam Partners, the City of Rotterdam, Clean Tech Delta and Innovation Quarter.
