NIBM event: India meets Rotterdam

09/19/18

More than 200 participants gathered at Conference Center Engels in Rotterdam on 19 September for the 12th edition of the Netherlands India Business Meet (NIBM), the annual flagship event of the Netherlands India Chamber of Commerce & Trade (NICCT).

The NIBM, organized by Rotterdam Partners together with City of Rotterdam, the Netherlands India Chamber of Commerce & Trade NICCT, Port of Rotterdam and Erasmus University Rotterdam was a platform for knowledge sharing, networking and creating new business opportunities with leading Indian companies, Dutch multinationals and SME’s from both countries sharing their experiences. Among the participants was a delegation of special guests from FICCI, the largest and oldest business organization in India. NIBM is a follow up event to a Netherlands Trade mission to India in May of this year.

India is one of the countries that has priority focus of Rotterdam and its economic partners. Co-organizing NIBM is a next step in building upon the good relations between the Netherlands and India and promoting mutual economic growth and knowledge sharing.

Innovating Infrastructures

The theme for NIBM was ‘Innovating Infrastructures’, with special attention on the business sectors Agri-food, Maritime & Logistics, Water, Energy and IT. Various parallel sessions provided the participants the opportunity to interact with Dutch and Indian experts on these topics.

Contributing to mutual understanding

Amongst the speakers at NIBM were  Mayor of Rotterdam Ahmed Aboutaleb, Indian Ambassador to the Netherlands Venu Rajamony, Allard Castelein CEO Port of Rotterdam and Guido Landheer, DG International Relations, Ministry of Economic Affairs of the Netherlands.

Mayor Aboutaleb: “I hope today’s Netherlands India Business Meet in Rotterdam will further contribute to our mutual understanding, the exchanging of ideas and doing business together. India and the Netherlands share fundamental values, which makes us natural partners. So let’s make cooperation our top priority today”.

Edith Nordmann, NICCT Chairman: “One of the prime benefits for Dutch participants of NIBM is the opportunity to not only listen to high quality expert session speakers with past and present experience in India but also to actually meet with relevant Indian delegations and corporates to discuss opportunities face to face at the event in Rotterdam.”

Jeroen Kuyper, Managing Director of Rotterdam Partners: “We see a substantial increase in trade en investment activities relating to India in the Rotterdam region. Many highly skilled knowledge workers from India are coming to Rotterdam. India is even one of the top three countries based on the number of new arrivals serviced by our Rotterdam Expat Centre. Indian tour operators and organizers of cultural events are also discovering Rotterdam. We warmly welcome them to our city.”
