Unilever head office comes to Rotterdam

15 Mar

Anglo-Dutch consumer goods company Unilever announced on Thursday 15 October that its new headquarters will be located in Rotterdam.

Since 1930 and the merger of the Dutch Margarine Unie en the British Lever Brothers, Unilever has had two head offices, one in Rotterdam and one in London. The decision to locate its new HQ in Rotterdam is driven by the ambition to become more nimble. The Dutch tax system and legal structures have played a role in the company’s decision.

It is not yet known what the decision will mean in terms of jobs, but it is expected that the move will bring a number of staff positions to Rotterdam.

The decision of Unilever means a new success for Rotterdam. The city is doing well when it comes to attracting foreign companies and investments. A total of 52 companies brought € 541 million in investments and 1,065 jobs to the city in 2017.
