Europe’s largest port
Situated on the North Sea and in the delta of three major rivers, i.e. Rhine, Maas, and Scheldt, Rotterdam is home to Europe’s largest port (#9 worldwide), where 467 tonnes of goods were transshipped, 7.4 million containers were processed, and the cargo capacity totalled 12.3 million TEUs in 2016. Owing to the absence of draught limits across the port, even the biggest container ships can enter and exit the port 24 hours a day. Combined, the port and the surrounding areas make up the Netherlands’ largest industrial cluster, with total value added of approx. EUR12.6 billion in 2015.
